Dr. Gabass’ ‘victim’ appears in court, case adjourned to Jan. 7

The 16-year-old boy who was allegedly sodomised by a medical doctor, Dr. Ali Gabass today appeared in court to testify in the case. The boy, who looked quite frail, could not come previously because he was getting medical attention at the Korle Bu teaching hospital.

The doctor has since confessed to sodomising the boy about five times. The boy in question is now HIV positive, but the doctor has denied infecting the boy with the disease.

The circuit court in Accra has, however adjourned the case to January 7, 2015. Lawyers of Dr. Ali Gabass however, prayed the court to grant their client bail, but this was denied.

On Wednesday, January 7 when the case is recalled, cross-examination of the alleged victim is expected to continue. The court, presided over by Justice Rita Agyeman Budu had on two occasions adjourned the case following the absence of the 16-year-old boy who was at the time receiving medical attention.

Dr. Gabass has been charged for unnatural carnal knowledge of a minor. His demeanor and posturing looked like he was less worried.

Brother of the accused, Alhaji Aziz, has described the whole scenario involving his brother as “sad.”
