Dr Bawumia denounces indiscipline in Senior High Schools

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has denounced indiscipline at Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country saying such acts were not needed at the time that all hands were on deck to develop the country.

He noted that indiscipline had become a serious problem across most SHS in the country saying “Indiscipline is expensive for nation-building because it is destructive, and can destroy the overall performance of students and their future.”

Dr Bawumia said this in Tamale on Saturday during the 23rd Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO).

The event was on the theme: “Secondary Education in Northern Ghana: Producing Responsible Citizens through Discipline.”

A number of students, who excelled during the academic year, were presented with various prizes while some former distinguished students of TAMASCO including; the Vice President were also honoured with citations.

Dr Bawumia asserted that indiscipline corrupted minds and students who engaged in such acts always wanted things to be done for them in their own ways.

He, therefore, urged students to be steadfast and listen to their elders and teachers to forestall indiscipline behaviour in schools.

He commended Management of TAMASCO for instilling high level of discipline in its students, which had resulted in excellent academic standards the school was noted for.

Dr Bawumia also spoke about the Free SHS policy saying it was the beginning of government’s commitment to building the country’s human resource.

He announced that from next week, government would release resources to SHS across the country as part of efforts to address the infrastructural challenges they were encountering as a result of the implementation of the Free SHS.

Mr Suaib Wilberforce Adams, Headmaster of TAMASCO said the school chalked some successes during the year adding efforts would be intensified to earn even more laurels in future.
