DPP Sampong retires

Accra Feb. 2, GNA – Mr Osafo Sampong, Director for Public Prosecution went on leave prior to retirement from active service on Monday, January 31, a source at the Attorney General’s Department said on Thursday. Mr Sampong handed over to Mr Eric Agbolosu, Chief State Attorney, as the new DPP at a brief ceremony in Accra.

The source said Mr Sampong was called to the bar in October 1968 and joined the Department as Assistant State Attorney and rose through the ranks until his appointment as DPP in February 2000. Mr Sampong, a member of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), worked at the Department under 10 Attorney – Generals.

They were Mr Victor Owusu; Mr N.Y. B. Adade; Mr E. N. Moore; Dr Gustav Koranteng-Adow; Mr A.N.E Amissah; Mr E.E. K. Aikins; Dr Obed Yao Asamoah; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; Papa Owusu Ankomah and Mr J. Ayikoi Otoo.

Mr Sampong, a member of the International Association of Prosecutors, worked as a Part-Time Lecturer in Criminal Law at the Ghana School of Law for 10 years.
