Doryumu Youth Association elects officers to oversee development of

their town

Doryumu (GAR), Nov. 29, GNA – The Doryumu Youth Association in the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region has elected a 14-member executive to ensure speedy development of their area under a two-year term.

This is against the backdrop that the area abounds in rich resources including a quarry, mangoes, cashew and available stretch of land which is not being fully utilized to the benefit of the people and progress of the town.

The election, held on Wednesday at Doryumu was supervised by electoral officers from Dodowa.

Mr Nortey said all splinter youth groups had been brought under the umbrella of the youth association so that with a common purpose they could together champion the course of development of the town.

He said they were taking their destiny into their own hands by contributing to the fast development of the area since the town lacks infrastructural facilities such as community centre, vocational institution, library, second cycle institution, modern toilet facility among others while there are no job openings for the youth.

This situation, according to him, has rendered the people very poor and compelled the youth who have no skill training to go wayward and indulge in social vices.

To curb the situation, Mr Nortey said his administration, in consultation with the assembly members and some opinion leaders would endeavour to tap the resources to generate revenue for development of the town.

According to him, priority would be placed on vocational technology transfer programmes and agriculture and urged the youth to avail themselves of such golden opportunity to acquire skills.

The two assembly members for the area, Mrs Joyce Nueke Nunoo and Mr Stephen Djanmah, expressed their readiness to support the youth in the laudable venture.
