Dormaaman presents scholarships to 54 brilliant but needy students

Dormaa Ahenkro(B/A), Dec. 31, GNA – Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, Dormaahene at the weekend presented scholarships worth 48 million cedis to 54 brilliant but needy students. He appealed to the chiefs and people to support and contribute to the Dormaaman Education Endowment Fund which was not meant for only citizens but residents as well to improve on the standard of education in the area. Osagyefo Agyeman Badu presented the scholarships at the annual end of year get-together of the Dormaa Traditional Council with the chiefs and people at Dormaa Ahenkro.

In addition, he presented a cheque for 10 million cedis towards a library project at Abesim, near Sunyani and another 20 million cedis cheque for Dormaa Hospital. Twenty of the beneficiaries are in Polytechnics and Universities and 34 in Senior Secondary and Technical schools. About 600 students have so far received scholarships worth 300 million cedis from the Fund established in 2000. Osagyefo Agyeman Badu urged the people to unite and co-operate to accelerate development in the area and not to be divided by partisan politics.

Barima Oppong Yaw Buabasa, Gyasehene of Dormaa Traditional Area, noted that the Fund was a golden opportunity for parents in the area to encourage their children to be serious with their education. He urged them to co-operate with the traditional council and contribute immensely for the success of the Fund to realise its objectives. Barima Buabasa commended Osagyefo Agyeman Badu, a former High Court Judge, for the successes within Dormaaman during his seven-and-a-half year reign.
