Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 23, GNA – The Dormaa Municipal Assembly and the Municipal directorate of Education are to put in place drastic measures to control activities of video operators to minimize school children’s patronage.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah, who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro on Friday, said video game centres in particular were occupying the precious learning hours of basic school children in the area.
He said he had reports that some children from schools in Dormaa-Ahenkro visited regularly a particular video game centre in a wooden kiosk during classes’ hours.
The MCE said the Assembly is concern about the practice and vowed that his office would work in concert with the Assembly’s Education Sub-Committee and the Municipal office of Education to nip the cancer in the bud.
“Parents and traditional leaders would also be brought on board to play active role in ensuring that school children utilize their hours judiciously to prepare themselves adequately for the future rather than being left at the mercy of adults to be exploited,” the MCE stressed. To begin with, he said, the Assembly would take inventory of all such centres before the action to close them down.
