Dormaa loses 20 million cedis property in fire outbreaks

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), Feb 27, GNA – Property worth more than 20 million cedis has been lost to bush and domestic fire in the Dormaa district this year. Mr. Emmanuel Sarfo, District Fire Officer told Ghana News Agency in an interview that four domestic and four bush fires have been recorded within the past two months. He said property lost included poultry birds, structures and personal belongings, saying the domestic fires occurred at Nkrankwanta and Dormaa Ahenkro.

The District Fire Officer expressed concern about the haphazard manner houses had been built at Dormaa Ahenkro, which hampered the movement of fire personnel during outbreaks. He appealed to the Statutory Planning Committee of the District Assembly to be more pro-active in ensuring that developers adhered to building regulations. Mr. Sarfo cautioned residents to put off electric gadgets when leaving home and warned particularly game hunters to be careful in their operations to avoid disasters.
