Dorma to re-introduce Puberty rites

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Oct. 13, GNA – The Dormaa Traditional Council in the Brong-Ahafo Region has decided to re-introduce puberty rites in the area to enhance moral chastity among young girls. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief, disclosed this at a fund-raising durbar at Dormaa-Ahenkro in aid of Dormaaman educational endowment fund.

He said the programme would be under the supervision of queenmothers who would also monitor and offer occasional direction and advice to inmates.

The Omanhene said the council had plans to reward abundantly any girl who successfully completed the process. He said among other things, candidates would enjoy financial and material support from the council in the performance of marriage rites, as well as plots of land for development projects. The Dormaahene said the council would later publish details of the tradition as well as the numerous benefits young girls stood to derive if they agreed and complied with the tradition. 13 Oct. 08
