Door-to-door mail delivery begins in Western Region in June

Takoradi, Jan. 22, GNA- The door-to-door delivery of mails by the Ghana Post Company Limited will commence by June this year, Mr Emmanuel Armah Sabaa, Acting Western Regional Head of the company told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.

He said the Aboadze Thermal Plant Township, the SSNIT flats and the Airport Ridge had been selected for the pilot project of the new system. Mr Sabaa said personnel of the company had been trained while the receptacles and other logistics were ready and awaiting for management’s approval.

He said an educational campaign would soon begin on the proper addresses to be used to facilitate the easy identification of houses in the selected areas.

Mr Sabaa said the company would also introduce Instant Money Transfer (IMT) throughout the country to facilitate easy, quick and the safest means of transferring money from one part of the country to another.

He said the IMT would rely heavily on text-coded messages through mobile telephone services and monies transferred, could be collected within the next few minutes.

Mr Sabaa said postal orders would be used side by side the IMT and advised customers to patronise the IMT when implemented. He appealed to the general public to declare the entire contents of all parcels to personnel of the company to enable them to handle them with the topmost care.

Mr Sabaa noted that under-declaring of contents of parcels had led to the destruction of several letters and parcels in transit. “Many people post liquids and during transit, most of these leak and destroy some of the mails” he explained.

Mr Sabaa said efforts were being made to speed up the delivery of letters and parcels and to avoid mistreated and damaged letters. He stressed that mailing of unacceptable materials, under-declaring and the use of insufficient postage stamps, could delay a parcel or letter.
