Accra, March 29, GNA – The Committee for Joint Action, organisers of the “Wahala” campaign, on Tuesday asked all those who would be participating in their demonstrations not to wear party T-shirts. In a statement confirming that the next round of demonstrations would be at Wa and Ho on Thursday, the CJA said the marchers should refrain from wearing T-shirts or other party insignia.
“The CJA is committed to an orderly and peaceful demonstration and urges all participants to be law abiding,” it said in the statement signed by four members.
The CJA has already organised two demonstrations in Accra. The statement said the “Wahala” campaign was a protest against the 50 per cent increase in price of fuel and the economic hardships facing Ghanaians.
“The Wahala Campaign is gathering momentum as more organised groupings and individuals from all walks of life add their voices to calls on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government to review downwards prices of LP gas, kerosene, diesel and petrol.”
The CJA expressed sadness at the Good Friday fire at the PSC Tema Shipyard in which at least 15 people were killed and expressed condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased.
It said it hoped that the Committee appointed by the Government to investigate the causes of the fire would be given “a free hand in order to discharge their assignment in a competent and professional manner.
“We reject any attempt by the NPP to use the incident, which affected the (operations) of the Tema Oil Refinery as justification for maintaining the February 18 petroleum prices.”
The CJA said some NPP members had been ascribing the fire outbreak to sabotage.
