Don’t vote for independent candidates – NPP activist

A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team Henry Nana Boakye popularly called ‘Nana B’ has called on supporters of the party in the country and abroad to desist from voting for break-away independent candidates in the December 7 polls.

According to him, the independent candidates are only pursuing their parochial interests and not that of the party pleading with the electorate to ignore them.

He said they ceased to be members of the party per the party’s Constitution the moment they went solo.

‘Parliamentary success is linked up to presidential success, in most election cases, the number of votes amassed by a party’s parliamentary candidates help the party win the presidency. I recall in 2000 elections when we won majority seats, we campaigned based on the figures during the run off. Late former President E.A Mills in 2008 also adopted this same strategy.

I am pleading with all NPP members and sympathisers to vote for the party’s parliamentary candidates after voting for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Don’t vote for any independent candidates, those NPP members who have gone solo are allowed to do so, but we are pushing an agenda for Nana Addo to win power,’ he explained.

Speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, Nana B bemoaned the personal attacks and vilification tactics some of the aggrieved independent candidates have adopted just to score cheap political points.

The NPP’s Communicator admonished the various candidates to embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults and painting others black.

‘Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Candidates were elected during primaries by the delegates based on the party’s laid down rules. The independent candidates should concentrate on their campaigns devoid of personal attacks because it does not augur well for democracy,’ he entreated.

He called on the electorate to vote massively for Nana Addo and NPP to win power to solve the untold hardships the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has brought onto Ghanaians.
