The Police Administration has directed police officers not to remove stickers from vehicles of drivers suspected to have breached road traffic regulations.
Mr. Victor Tandoh, the Commander Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service said the directive took effect from January this year. He explained that the police removed the stickers to compel the drivers who committed the offences to report at the police stations for the next line of action to be taken.
?Indeed it was a form of surety,? he said. Reacting to public concerns about the behaviour of some policemen on motor traffic checks, Mr. Tandoh said the police authorities gave the directive because some of the stickers returned to the offending drivers could not be put back on their windscreens.
He, however, defended the decision of the police authorities to seize drivers? licenses from drivers who breached motor traffic regulations because the licenses served as sureties to make them report to the police stations to be processed for court.
