Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams says Ghanaians must remember late President John Mills by his “humility” rather than “what killed him or how he died”.
“…He wasn’t arrogant…neither was he proud. He was a very humble man. Very down-to-earth and I hope that he will be remembered for his humility and how down-to-earth he was, instead of what killed him or how he died. Let’s remember how he lived”, the Christian Action Faith Ministries’ Presiding Archbishop told his congregation in a sermon played back on Radio XYZ’s Christian programme ‘Voice of Action’ on Sunday August 11.
The cause of the late President Mills’ death resurfaced during the celebration of the first year anniversary of his passing.
Pro-opposition group Young Patriots was very vociferous in calling for a disclosure of the late president’s cause of death.
Disagreeing voices such as Insight Newspaper Managing Editor, Kwesi Pratt Jr., described such calls as mischievous and unnecessary.
He told XYZ Breakfast Show on Thursday July 25 that: “This is clearly mischievous” since “an autopsy was conducted by qualified medical practitioners in the presence of his brother representing his family”.
Mr. Pratt wondered why the calls are being made by non-family members despite the fact that neither the pathologists nor the late president’s family had raised reservations about the stated cause of death.
“Who has the locus to be calling for an investigation into his death? What is the basis of that call?” He wondered.
He said “we should show some respect to the family of Prof. Mills. We should show some respect to his brother. We should show some respect to the Professor himself”.
He wondered why similar calls are not being made in respect of late Leaders such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia and I. K Acheampong amongst others.
President Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on July 24 last year, three days after marking his 68th birthday.
