Don’t politicize GPRTU – Regional Chairman

Agona Swedru, June 26, GNA – Mr Kwame Kumah, Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has urged members of the union not to allow the union to be dragged into politics.

He said any attempt to make the biggest transport organization in the country a political entity would make it lose its long achieved values and glory.

Mr Kumah said this when he addressed members of the union at Agona Swedru where executives of four branches – Texaco numbers 1, 2, and 3, and Swedru/Accra – were elected into office for four years.

Mr Kumah said the union had played a vital role in the transformation and growth of the transport sector which had helped the development of the national economy.

He noted that the union had created an enabling environment for smooth operations and credible relations with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and urged members to maintain the cordial relationship existing between the union and the assemblies.

Mr Kumah said that the union offered services to all including the government of the day and should not align itself with one a particular political party.

He bemoaned the increasing rate of accidents on the roads that had resulted in deaths and urged the new executives to ensure that sanity prevailed on the road.

Mr Mosie Otabil, Texaco Branch Chairman of the Union, who was elected unopposed, on behalf of his colleagues, assured the Regional Chairman and the executive members that they would work hard to improve the image of the union.
