Don’t politicise anniversary – DCE urges Ghanaians

Juaso (Ash), Oct 26, GNA – Dr. Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive for Asante-Akim South, has reiterated calls on Ghanaians not to politicise the nation’s 50th anniversary celebration. He said the event would serve as a great landmark in Ghana’s history and must not be exploited for political gains.

Dr. Gyamfi-Fenteng made the call when addressing an emergency meeting of the District Planning Committee of the Anniversary at Juaso. The committee, which is made up of representatives from civil society groups, heads of departments, religious bodies, political parties as well as security agencies, was to discuss preparations towards the “Greening Ghana Day” exercise scheduled for October 28. The Day which marks the formal beginning of activities for the anniversary has been set for the planting of 50 trees each by district groups and entities nationwide.

The DCE said since political activities are geared towards national development, there was the need for Ghanaians to be committed to issues of national interest irrespective their political affiliations.

He called for total support for the anniversary, adding that membership constituting various committees at district, regional and national levels depicted the non-partisan nature of the anniversary. Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng urged members of the committee to put their respective expertise to ensure a successful celebration in the district.
