Don’t over-burden wards, parents told

Techiman (Brong Ahafo), 3 Nov. ’98 Mr Ben Buabeng, Director of Fountain International School, has urged parents to refrain from overburdening their children with ”too much domestic chores to the detriment of their studies”. He told a Parent/Teacher Association meeting of the school at Techiman at the weekend that saddling children with too much domestic duties ”often disturb their concentration in class due to fatigue.” He said by limiting the duties assigned to children, parents would be helping their wards to get the needed rest necessary to re- energise them to perform academic work with distinction. Mr Buabeng appealed to parents to provide their children with the necessary material and financial support so that they could have the peace of mind to pursue their studies. He said 3.6 million cedis has been spent on the construction of a three-storyed classroom block for the Junior Secondary School and appealed to parents to pay their building fees of 5,000 cedis to ensure its early completion. Mr Joseph Antwi, chairman of the PTA, urged parents to engage private teachers for their children in order to use their private time more productively.
