Don’t link AIDS with population control

Mankranso (Ash), May 23, GNA – Dr Edward Tagoe, the Ahafo-Ano South District Director of Health Services, has expressed regret that section of the people held the view that HIV/AIDS served as a means for population control in the country.

He said the view is untenable and that there are many accepted ways of controlling population growth, which include sterilisation, condom use, abstinence, and family planning among others. Dr Tagoe was reacting to a question posed by a participant at a two-day HIV/AIDS seminar organised for teachers in the Ahafo-Ano South district at Mankranso on Friday.

The Ghana Book Trust organised a sponsored the workshop, which was aimed at empowering the teachers to manage behavioural change among themselves, school children and the public. It was also designed to equip them with skills to enable them inform and educate the public about the pandemic.

Mr Sampson Amofah Krah, the District Director of Education, urged the people to be faithful to their partners and refrain from casual sex to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS.
