Kumasi, May 8, GNA-Miss Emelia Ampomah, proprietress of Emeliamp Vocational Institute, has called on parents not to allow acquisition of poverty to deter them from supporting their children to acquire vocational skills.
She said poverty should rather encourage them to strive hard to assist their children to acquire skills so that they would not be a liability to society but become responsible citizens Miss Ampomah said this at the second graduation ceremony of the Institute in Kumasi on Saturday.
She said skills training plays unique role in the socio-economic development of every society but it is unfortunate that people are unable to support their children due to poverty.
She stressed the need for the government to focus its attention on vocational institutions so that they could also play their roles in helping to improve the economic development of the country. Miss Ampomah, who is also an evangelist, said with the graduation of 12 students this year, the Institute has so far turned out 28 street children trained in various skills.
She said the institute has special programmes for street children and junior secondary school leavers and called for financial support from the government and non-governmental organisations. May 08 05
