In the wake of the recent election rerun in Ablekuma North, which descended into chaos and heightened tensions between the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP, Political Analyst Mr. Samuel Boateng has vehemently denounced the incursion of thugs at the electoral venue, resulting in harm to a former Member of Parliament, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, the NPP Vice Chairman, journalists, and other notable individuals present to observe the proceedings.
During an interview on GIFTs FM morning show, Mr. Samuel Boateng remarked that while Ghanaians possess a profound understanding of the democracy practiced, politicians have endeavored to disrupt the peace enjoyed by the nation through elections, resorting to bloodshed and other brutalities in their quest for victory. He asserted that such actions must be unequivocally condemned, stressing that under no circumstance should politics strip individuals of their humanity.
He further articulated that elections are the cornerstone of democracy, representing the exchange of ideas on who should be entrusted with governance, which should not entail chaos, violence, and brutality. He expressed concern over the persistent disruption of the electoral process in the country, which continues to undermine the democratic stature and impedes the nation’s development and progress.
Mr. Samuel Boateng again noted that the security lapses during the recently concluded re-election exacerbated the chaotic scenes we witnessed. He asserted that it is imperative for the security services to adopt a proactive stance and ensure their readiness to protect the nation during electoral processes and similar situations.
He proposed that it is essential to involve the military in all our elections, given the political tensions inherent in our electoral proceedings. He emphasized that the NDC and NPP consistently incite disorderly political scenes, often surpassing the capabilities of the police force. Therefore, it would be prudent to deploy the military to restore order whenever elections are conducted.
