The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, on Tuesday cautioned the youth in politics to refrain from insulting the elderly and public office holders because it would not promote the nation’s democratic dispensation.
He was addressing a parade of school children and voluntary organisations to mark Ghana’s 55th Independence Anniversary at Agona Swedru.
He said: “It is regrettable to observe that some people go to the extent of insulting the President of the Republic because of politics, a situation which does not augur well for the beauty of democracy.
“Let our utterances be worthy enough for emulation by the youth of the country,” Mr Tetteh said.
He urged Ghanaians above 18 years to actively participate in the forthcoming biometric registration exercise to enable them to vote in the December general election.
Twenty basic and secondary schools and voluntary organisations took part in March past.
