Don’t encroach on UEW lands – Pro Vice Chancellor

Winneba, May 22, GNA – The Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Akwasi Asabere Ameyaw, has expressed concern about the encroachment of the land of the University by some developers.

The Pro Vice Chancellor noted that the encroachment by some citizens of Winneba had made it difficult for the University to expand its infrastructure.

He appealed to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to help the University to evict the encroachers. Prof Ameyaw said roads at the North Campus of the University were being constructed and other facilities provided to raise the status of the institution.

The Regional Minister inspected the Amu Music Theatre and Music Department at the Central Campus, auditorium and examination and lecture halls, accommodation for Lecturers at the North Campus and a library at the South Campus. Pro Ameyaw said the Sports College was serving the purpose it was established and appealed to the government to incorporate it into the University.

Nana Arthur said the government would continue to improve infrastructure at tertiary institutions to enable them perform their functions.

He praised the GETFund for undertaking the projects and assured the authorities that more facilities would be added to improve academic work of the University.

Nana Arthur expressed concern about poverty in the region even though education started there and had produced many great men and women serving in various sectors of the economy.
