‘Don’t dump free education policy’

A group calling itself Progressive Youth Alliance, which advocates for equal opportunities for all in society, has appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo not to abandon his Free Education policy.

A statement released and signed by Latif Solomon, leader of the group, said “we appreciated your campaign message in the 2012 elections and it was unfortunate that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaigned against it.”

“We had a firm belief that the Free Education policy was coming to help the less privileged in society by providing equal opportunities for every child to be enrolled to develop all aspects of our country.”

“Though they campaigned against it in 2012,we were glad us a group that the NDC and President Mahama appreciated and revealed later on that the said policy was possible and that the Mahama led-administration was putting up plans to ensure its implementation in the 2015/2016 academic year.

“The said academic year has just passed and President Mahama and the NDC have not made any comment to that effect. We stand to believe that though the NDC now accepts the said policy, it cannot implement it due to its low commitment in ensuring equal opportunity for all Ghanaians.”

“In that regard, we call on you and your campaign team to incorporate the free education policy into your campaign message. We trust that your commitment to that policy would help ensure its reality for the poor and less privileged in the country,” the statement said.

The statement noted that the policy would help tackle youth unemployment and corruption in order to build a stronger economy.

“Finally we believe Ghana will be a better place if every child gets equal opportunity to excel. We wish you well as you prepare for your campaign and we are of firm belief that Ghanaians will give you the nod to be president, come November,” it added.
