Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, has cautioned the two companies contracted to produce signage for the street naming project that he would not compromise on shoddy work.
“Since Accra is the capital I am expecting quality work that will befit its status,” he said.
The contractors are Duratech Signs Limited and Parttern Language Concept Limited.
Dr Vanderpuije gave the warning when he visited the workshops of the companies at East Legon and Dansoman to acquaint himself with progress of work.
He told the companies that he would like to see a high level of professionalism, as well as quality works from them.
The two companies are expected to produce and install 6,742 signs within the metropolis on identified streets in Accra.
Dr Vanderpuije said: “This is an exercise which had come to stay and I don’t want to see any shoddy works because if the donor countries see any bad work they won’t be happy with us,” he cautioned.
Mr Kwadwo Yeboah, the Metropolitan Director of Town and Country Planning told the Ghana News Agency that “every work done is according to guideline and specification by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and so far the work is near completion.”
Mr Terah Kumi, Managing Director of the Parttern Language Limited assured the MCE that all the poles along the beaches would be galvanized to withstand the sea breeze.
He promised that the work would be completed on time.
Nii Dodoo Nsaki, the Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council suggested a community sensitization to enable the youth to effectively monitor the poles so that they are not stolen by scrap dealers.
