?Don?t Declare Amoateng’s Seat Vacant?

Mr. Dennis Adjei-Brenyah, the genuine lawyer for Hon. Eric Amoateng, the Nkoranza North MP, currently on trial in a New York court has stated that what befell his client was purely accidental and could befall anybody else. He has advised against any attempts at declaring his client?s seat vacant, because doing that would suggest that his client has already been convicted, adding that the Speaker of Parliament has already been communicated with.

The lawyer told Daily Guide that any attempt to declare the Nkoranza North Constituency seat vacant might compromise the interest of his client since Hon. Eric Amoateng has not been convicted of any offence, adding that his client is innocent. A federal magistrate court on Monday evening provided the accused persons? lawyers with material evidence as tape recordings that prosecution claims it has gathered, to establish that the two gentlemen were engaged in certain activities against the State of America.

Hon. Amoateng has hired the services of two crack New York based criminal lawyers, John Perpen and Ghanaian born Dennis Adjei-Brenyah to represent him.

Appearing before a deputy magistrate, Robert Levy, Hon. Amoateng and Nii Okai Adjei both pleaded not guilty to the charges at the pre-trial which lasted about five minutes.

The two face charges of conspiracy to export and distribute heroin to the United States of America, raising questions about the earlier letter purported to have been written by Nii Adjei, admitting culpability of the offence, while clearing the MP from any wrong doing. Hon. Amoateng is relying on the experience of his lawyers who have track records in such cases, to get him out of trouble, while Nii Okai Adjei?s fate lies in the hands of an entirely young state-provided attorney, Mr. D. Lolflip, who appears to be in his late twenties.
