Don’t compromise on peace to hinder development – Ato Arthur

Cape Coast, April 23, GNA – The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, on Wednesday appealed to traditional councils to help guard against compromising on peace in order to ensure sustainable development in their areas.

He appealed to chiefs of the Edina Traditional Area to help quell any disputes brewing in the area, especially as happens during the celebration of their annual ‘bakatue’ festival. Nana Arthur said this when some chiefs and queen mothers of the area led by Nana Kodwo Eduakwa V, chief of Atonkwa and Akwamuhen of the traditional, area called on him.

The chiefs were at the residency to brief him about activities lined up for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, paramount chief of the area.

Nana Conduah spoke about the historical importance of Elmina and the major role of traditional rulers and stressed the need for the maintenance of peace not only during the festival but at all times, particularly during the general election. He pledged his administration’s support towards making the celebration a success.

Nana Eduakwa said activities lined up in connection with the anniversary celebration included a regatta by fishermen from various parts of the country to usher in the ‘bakatue’ festival in July, a photo exhibition of development projects undertaken since Nana Conduah ascended the stool and a grand durbar.
