Don’t be partial in best farmer award -Assemblyman

Agona Nkum (C/R), July 8, GNA- Mr Samuel Mpotah, Assemblyman for Agona Nkum, Electoral Area has expressed concern about alleged partiality in the award of best farmer by the select committees in the district.

He urged the committees be it in the national, regional and district to encourage hardworking farmers to work to increase cash and food crops production.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Agona Nkum on Wednesday, Mr Mpotah said even though farmers are enjoying the fruits of their labour, the formation of the best farmer award had also boosted the morale of the farmers and fishermen.

He said the institution of the award has encouraged most of the youth to enter into serious farming activities.

Mr Mpotah said last year he produced four tonnes of cocoa, which would have assisted him to win an award either in the district or at the region as the best cocoa farmer, but did not materialise.

Mr Mpotah said the government of the New patriotic Party (NPP) saw it prudent to continue to honour Ghanaians farmers and urged the authorities of Ministry of Food and Agriculture to monitor the activities of the select committee members.
