Don’t allow politicians to woo you with sweet words

Fomena (Ash), Sept. 13, GNA – The electorate, especially women have been advised against allowing themselves to be wooed by politicians with sweet words.

Mr Kofi Poku-Adusei, the Deputy Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, who gave the advice, urged the electorate to judge the parties by their past and present performances in terms of good governance before they exercised their votes.

The Deputy Minister was addressing the opening of the Third Annual Conference of the Obuasi Diocese of the Christian Mothers Association (CMA) at Fomena on Saturday.

The CMA is a women organisation within the Catholic Church. Mr Poku-Adusei, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai, further appealed to the women to counsel the youth to refrain from political violence.

He said, “The Impact of Women on the Family, Church and the Community”, which was the theme for the conference was more appropriate in view of the current socio-economic trends and the global appreciation of the pivotal role women played in national development process. The Deputy Minister noted that, women could make more impact on the family, the church and community if they appreciated their own importance as well as the challenges they faced in the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr Emmanuel K. Antwi, the Obuasi Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) appealed to the association to advise their husbands and children to avoid any conduct that would endanger the peaceful organisation of the December polls. He said the society recognised the influence women had on their husbands and children and that “if you take it upon yourselves to advise them, Ghana will definitely see a very peaceful elections”.

Madam Victoria Attakora, the Diocesan President of CMA, appealed to the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to assist the association in the construction of the diocese’s early childhood development centre at Obuasi.
