Donkro-Nkwanta realises 17.5 million cedis from water project

Nkoranza (B/A), July 10, GNA – The Donkro-Nkwanta community in the Nkoranza District of the Brong Ahafo Region, has realized 17.5 million cedis from the sale of water between January and April this year. Mr Peter Nsowah-Kwaakye, Manager of the Management Board of the Community’s Water Project, told the GNA at Nkoranza that 12.5 million cedis of the amount went into managing the facility. He said 6.5 million cedis were spent on electricity bills whilst six million cedis were used to purchase pipelines for extension of water supply to the Zongo community.

Mr Nsowah-Kwaakye said a substantial amount was spent on settling electricity bills and appealed to the government to subsidise the cost of the utility.

He said: “Without the subsidy, there would be a time when we will find it very difficult to get money to maintain the machines.” The Board Manager complained about the attitude of a section of the community, who had refused to patronise the stand pipes and rather used water from a nearby stream
