Domenase Botanical Garden – a vision

Mampong (Ash), June 29, GNA – The M and J Research Centre at Asante Mampong will soon establish a botanical garden of medicinal plants at Domenase near Mamkanese, Mr Jacob Amoah, a Pharmacist and head of the Research team has announced.

The aim of the project, he said, is to attract the western world to Ghana to patronise the medicinal plants that are abundant in Ghana but in short supply in the western world.

This, he noted, will promote a symbiotic relationship among the two partners (Ghana and the Western World).

He added that, the initiative will further push the western world not to view Ghana as financial predator, since the nation will also satisfy a need, which could not be easily assessed in that part of the world.

Mr Amoah, stressed that vast land with water source to facilitate irrigation is being, prepared for the project to take off in earnest. Plans, he emphasised were far advanced to establish a research or treatment centre within the garden to ensure optimum utilisation of the botanical garden and its resources.

He said his outfit has harnessed the potential of plants that could heal diabetic wounds, reverse cardiovascular accidents (stroke), late stage of hernia and declining health status of People Living with AIDS (PLWA).

The centre, Mr Amoah, said has additionally identified herbaceous biennial plants that repel mosquitoes and thereby prevent them from entering opened doors.

He indicated that the mosquitoes repellent plant could be grown as potted plant as well as flowers and urged ministries, schools, hotels and hospitals to patronise the plant.

“We also intend to generate a bio-diesel generating facility to address the energy needs of the nation”, he added.

Mr Amoah, said, the M and J Management Consult of Ghana, established in 1999 with registration number BN-1, 391C could do more to exploit in research but has been financially constraint and called for financial and logistic support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and privileged individuals.
