Domeabra linguist in court over land case

Kofi Marfo, 54, linguist of Domeabra near Kumasi, accused of swindling a trader of his GHc6,500 under the pretext of securing him a plot of land, has been granted bail by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court.

His bail sum, GHc10,000 goes with two sureties, one to be justified.

Marfo, also a trader, was additionally charged for forging the signature of Nana Akwasi Domfeh, the Gyaasehene of the town, on the allocation paper and the site plan of the land he issued to Yaw Bedaso, the complainant.

He denied both charges, and he is to come back to court on July 13.

Police Chief Inspector Hannah Acheampong, told the court that in 2013, the complainant who lives at Suame in Kumasi, bought a piece of land located at Domeabra from the accused person, who claimed to be the caretaker of the lands as a family head.

Chief Inspector Acheampong said after Bedaso had paid for the said parcel of land in the sum of GHc6,500, an allocation paper and a site plan with the forged signature of the Gyaasehene, and the actual custodian of the land, was given to Bedaso who started to develop the land.

The court presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame, was further told that while development was going on, the Gyaasehene halted it, because the land was part of an area demarcated for a public cemetery.

After fruitless efforts to retrieve his money from the accused person, Bedaso reported the case to the police who arrested Marfo.

He was arraigned after investigations.
