Dog, cat owners urged to vaccinate their pets against rabies

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA – Dogs and cats owners in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District have been urged to be more responsible in the handling of their pets, to save the District from the dangers posed by rabies. Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive, made the call when he met a cross section of farmers, assembly members, and heads of departments at Winneba. He said that during the year under review, some cases of rabies were reported to his office, adding that laboratory investigations conducted later confirmed the reports.

Mr Abbam-Quaye advised dog and cat owners in the area to send their dogs and cats for vaccination as part of measures designed to eradicate the disease. As part of preventive measures initiated by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to curb the spread of the disease, he advised the owners to keep such domestic animals at home and at all times to prevent them from causing harm and even death, to innocent people. He charged the district veterinary doctor and his men to reach out to people in remote corners of the District with the rabies/aids awareness message.
