Dodowa (B/A), March 28, GNA – Residents of Dodowa, near Sankore in the Asunafo District of Brong Ahafo have appealed for the construction of bore-holes in the town to ease the perennial water shortage in the area. Elder Tetteh, Chairman of the Unit Committee, who made the appeal at a community forum at Dodowa, said the town depended on a stream called Bosompem, which dried up during the Harmattan season. He added that this problem was often compounded by widespread pollution from the source of the stream, posing the threat of contaminants and water-borne diseases.
The unit committee chairman announced that the community had begun to construct a four-bedroom teachers’ quarters to accommodate staff of the local primary schools. He said the community had spent 15 million cedis on the project estimated at 30 million cedis. Elder Tetteh said residents were contributing a special levy of a kilo deduction on each bag of cocoa and special levies to finance the project and intended tapping electricity power to the community.
