Yamoransa (C/R), Jan 13, GNA – A Member of the Council of State, Mr Ato Essuman, has advised royal families to document the inheritance system to stools and skins to avoid successor disputes when stools and skins become vacant.
“Where there are more than one gate to the ascension of the skin or stool a well documented inheritance system could curb controversy over, which gate should nominate a candidate,” he stated. The Council of State member made the suggestion when he paid a curtsey call on Okese Essandoh VIII, Omanhene of the Nkusukum Tradition, at Yamoransa, on Tuesday.
Mr Essuman said the visit was part of a series of visits to some traditional rulers in the Central Region to discuss how the numerous chieftaincy and land disputes could be resolved to ensure the development of the area.
He appealed to the Chiefs to adopt the Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanism to address chieftaincy and land disputes and to attend sittings of the judicial committees of the various traditional councils and the House of Chiefs regularly to facilitate the early disposal of cases.
The Council of State Member suggested the holding of a consultative forum on investment and socio-economic development to discuss the short, medium and long-term development of the Region. Mr Essuman who is also the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education and the Lay President of the Methodist Church of Ghana, said he had already initiated moves register a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) with some friends both at home and abroad to facilitate the development of the Region. Okese Essandoh commended Mr Ess uman who is the Central Region’s representative on the Council for the visit and promised that the issues he raised during their discussion would be tabled at a meeting of the Traditional Council.
He described the initiatives of the Member of the Council of State as laudable, adding that, they were issues that would accelerate the development of the Region if well pursued.
Mr Essuman’s tour also took him to Abeadze Dominase for talks with Dasebre Kwebu Ewusie VII, Omanhene of the Abeadze Traditional Area and held discussions with Nana Kwamina Ansah IV, President of the Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhene of the Eguafo Traditional Area at Eguafo.
