Kumasi, June 3, GNA – District Directors of Health Services (DDHS) have called on the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Council to institute measures to involve all key stakeholders in the review of the GHS Act (Act 525) and other health policies.
In a communiqu=E9 issued on Friday at the end of their 13th annual conference in Kumasi, the District Directors said they were appalled by the lack of consultation and involvement of key stakeholders in the review of the Act and said their input was very paramount to make any such measure more applicable.
The communiqu=E9, which was read by Dr (Mrs) Agatha Akua Bonney, President of DDHS, also called for the expansion of health training institutions to increase intake and the improvement of conditions of service of all categories of health workers to stem the brain drain in the health sector.
It called on the GHS as a matter of urgency to provide adequate vehicles for districts and sub-districts as well as step up training programmes for health workers and managers in child care particularly during the neonatal period.
The communiqu=E9 called on the Director General of the Ghana Education Service to reintroduce physical education into the school curriculum and make it a compulsory subject to promote physical exercise among the people.
It further called on the government to provide the basic infrastructure and other resources to facilitate the take off and function of the districts, especially the newly created ones. 3 June 03
