Doctors on strike: 80-year-old injured woman battles for life

An 80-year-old sick woman rushed in an ambulance from Battor in the Volta Region to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital earlier Thursday was left to her fate as there were no doctors at post to treat her ailment.

The old woman is said to have suffered a severe spinal injury which has affected her brain after she fell on the ground while trying to lift a container of water.

But her family members were left helpless since their arrival at the hospital Thursday morning because, medical officers were not at post following the nationwide strike embarked upon by members of the Ghana Medical Association.

Atinka News’ reporter Barima Kwaku Saakwah who spotted the elderly woman lying flat on her back in the ambulance, had a chat with one her family members.

At the Maternity Ward, nurses were compelled to turn away new cases and only attended to emergency cases.
