Doctor, nurse die in gory accident

A medical doctor and a deputy director of nursing services at the Kumasi South Hospital died in a fatal accident while attending the funeral of the late former MP for Akwatia Dr. Kofi Asare.

Dr. Patience Fletcher and Mrs Philomena Adomah Kwayie died on the spot. Reports have it that the Medical Director of Kumasi South Hospital, Dr. Ofori Boadu is in a critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Confirming the accident to Starr News, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, explained the accident occurred on Saturday at about 8:30am when a 32-year-old driver using Toyota Grand Bird with registration number GP 4921-15 had a brake failure and rammed into a Toyota Fortuner of which the deceased were being driven in.

The accident happened at a bridge on river Ako near Akyem Anyinase.

According to ASP Tetteh, Dr. Kwame Ofori Boadu, the driver of the Kumasi South Hospital Car and two other passengers of the commercial bus who sustained various degrees of injuries are on admission at the Oda Government Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue at Oda Government Hospital.

The driver is currently under lock and key assisting with investigation.
