Do not take your children from school – Sintim

Adeiso(ER), Oct. 21, GNA – Mr Kwabena Aboagye Sintim, West Akyem District Chief Executive has called on parents to refrain from withdrawing their children from schools not benefiting from the School Feeding Programme.

He explained that such an action would compound problems facing the programme in the country. Mr Sintim made the call in an address read on his behalf at a forum organised by Obra Foundation, an Adeiso-based NGO on education at Adeiso. The forum attended by stakeholders in education was to brainstorm on the falling standards of education in the district. He noted that 10 schools in the district were being used for the pilot scheme of the programme and would be extended to 50 schools next academic year.

Mr Sintim said the assembly was assisting the programme with the provision of infrastructure and logistics as part of the preparation for next academic year. Madam Gifty Aparbil, a Director at West Akyem District Directorate of Education pointed out that lack of motivation and inadequate logistics for teachers was a major factor leading to falling standards in education in the District. She called on the assembly, chiefs and parents to assist in the provision of accommodation to encourage teachers to accept postings to rural areas.

Mr James Mensah Boamah, Executive Director of Obra Foundation pledged its commitment to address the falling standards of education in basic schools in the District. He said it would organise workshops and seminars for school management committees and Parent Teacher Associations to equip them with skills and knowledge to support supervision of academic work in schools.
