Do not sell low cost houses -UNION

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA – The Local Government Workers Union (LGWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Thursday appealed to the government to rescind its decision to sell low cost houses in various districts, saying the policy was detrimental to workers occupying them. Making the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr William Mensah, General Secretary of the Union, said the members were aware of the government’s intention to sell low cost houses in various districts and that should this happen the occupants, many of whom are public servants would be thrown out.

He said there is also the likelihood that the large number of civil servants being transferred to Local Government Service would face accommodation problems and that this could eventually affect productivity.

Mr Mensah said rather, there was the need to construct more of such houses for the increasing public servants who would be transferred in the various district assemblies.
