Issa(UWR), July 12, GNA – Mr Alan Kyeremateng, a leading member of New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the electorate not to gamble with their votes during Election 2008, but vote for the NPP for development, good governance, freedom of speech and rule of law. He said this year’s election was crucial to the nation to determine its future development.
Mr Kyeremateng made the call when addressing a rally as part of the campaign tour of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Flagbearer of NPP at Issa in Nadowli East Constituency. He said: “Never in the history of this country has Ghanaians benefited from such tremendous development than under the NPP. Available records in road construction and expansion of education infrastructure are commendable”. “This year’s election is not about talking, we have to put our achievements in the public domain for the electorate to make the best choices for themselves.” Mr Kyeremateng said government had secured 600 million dollars for the construction of Bui Dam to supply electricity to the north while efforts were being made to link the north with rail to promote businesses.
He said government had imported more than 1,000 metro buses to help ease transportation problems facing the public and urged Ghanaians to conduct themselves properly and avoid being misused by politicians to create confusion during Election 2008. Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs said NPP Government was human centred and had the welfare of Ghanaians at heart.
She pledged government’s commitment to improve the living standards of the people through the formulation and implementation of prudent policies and programmes. Hajia Mahama appealed to the people in Wa Central Constituency to vote for the NPP for development and progress. Alhaji Muntari Bamba, a leading member of the party denied that introduction of the public mass transport was to eliminate members of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) and other organised transport unions out of business. He said introduction of mass transport by governments all over the world was to help facilitate movement of goods and services. Alhaji Bamba pleaded with people in the Upper West Region to change their system of voting this year and vote for the NPP since the Region had received massive development projects during the NPP rule. He said these include, Wa Polytechnic, construction of roads, provision of potable water and health facilities as well as school infrastructure. 12 July 08
