Do not abuse power – Asantehene

Kumasi, Oct. 08, GNA – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on Sunday implored Ghanaians in leadership positions to be patriotic and work hard to promote the well being of people.

He said they should not use their position to intimidate people adding, “people in authority should avoid abusing the powers vested in them to erode the confidence people have in them”.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was speaking at the induction of Oheneba Agyemang Badu, Atipimhene of Kumasi as Chancellor and Mr Kwame Asiedu-Basoah, as Registrar of Kumasi Anglican Diocese.

Oheneba Badu a former registrar of the diocese would now be in-charge of administration while Mr Asiedu-Basoah would be responsible for the properties and estates of the diocese.

The Asantehene said good leadership was crucial to realize the nation’s development goals and improve on the living standards of the people.

He asked Oheneba Badu and Mr Asiedu-Badu to see their appointments as a call to duty and not to lord over members of the Anglican Church. Right-Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, said it behoves Ghanaians to be law-abiding in all their endeavours to enhance the campaign against indiscipline.

“We should avoid drunk driving, bribery, human rights abuses, vandalism and intolerance,” he added.

Rt-Rev. Yinkah Sarfo urged Ghanaians to tolerate divergent views to sustain peace in the country.

Oheneba Badu expressed appreciation to the Church for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work for the church’s growth.
