District NHIS managers advised to establish desks at hospitals

New Edubiase (Ash), May 5, GNA – District Managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) have been advised to liaise with heads of health facilities in their catchment areas on the possibility of setting up desks at the Out-Patient Departments (OPDs).

Dr Okyere Nyantakyi Ntori, Medical Superintendent of the New Edubiase Government Hospital, who made the suggestion, said such a move would ensure on-the-spot filling of documents of NHIS patients and avert delays, which were often caused by patients moving from the hospital to the office location of the NHIS for documentation. He was speaking in an interview with the GNA at New Edubiase on Thursday.

Dr Ntori said such delays, which had so far been the bane of the Scheme since its implementation could easily be done away with to ensure its success.

He advised health personnel to adopt a positive attitude towards the very scheme and assist in its smooth running by doing away with acts that might undermine its success. He also appealed to persons who had not registered to do so as soon as possible to enjoy the benefits of the Scheme.
