District Level Elections slated for September 1

The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday September 1, 2015 for the holding of the District Level Election in all electoral areas and units, except those in the Lower Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region.

Nomination of candidates would take place on Thursday July 2 and Friday July 3, 2015 for the District Assembly Elections; and Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5, 2015 for the Unit Committee Elections.

A statement signed by Mr Amadu Sulley, EC Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, and copied to the Ghana news Agency, in Accra on Friday, said nominations would be taken from 0900 hours to 1200 noon, and 1300 hours to 1700 hours each day.

The EC said nomination forms may be obtained at the District Office of the Commission or from the Deputy Returning Officer (Special Duties) in the electoral area.

“All duly completed nomination forms must be submitted to the Deputy Returning Officer (Special Duties) on the dates set aside as nomination days,” the statement said.

“A person can contest either the District Assembly Election or the Unit Committee Election but not both elections”.

The EC directed all prospective candidates not to pay any fee for obtaining the nomination forms or for filing to contest the elections.

The statement said: “All prospective candidates are to submit four copies of a recent photograph of bust size with red background, showing the full face and both ears.

“All interested and qualified persons who want to contest any of the elections are to take note and act accordingly”.
