Apam, June 22, GNA – The Gomoa District Assembly, at an emergency meeting at Apam has cautioned citizens of the area against using the name of the Assembly to champion their own private agenda.
The warning was issued when the members passed a resolution condemning a letter purported to have been written and signed by a group of people calling for the transfer of three top officers of the District Administration.
The Assembly Members condemned the behaviour of the signatories to the letter and reminded them that the District Assembly concept was non-partisan; therefore, it was improper for someone to hide behind party politics to cause the transfer of a Civil Servant without any justification.
They appealed to the recipients of that letter to treat it with the contempt it deserved.
In a related development, the Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member to act on behalf of Mr Frank Essel Cobah, the substantive presiding member, who had travelled.
The Assembly was divided on the Gomoa East and Gomoa West issue. Mr Fred Oscar Abban, a Tutor of Dawurampong Secondary Technical School from Gomoa West had 32 votes as against 22 by Nana Kwa Budu from Gomoa East.
Though Nana Budu stepped down after the first balloting and urged the supporters to vote for Mr Abban, who was from the West, the second balloting recorded 36 for Mr Abban and 22 against him.
After lengthy appeals for the members to do away with the Gomoa East and Gomoa West issue, some members argued that since the DCE was from Gomoa West, the Gomoa East should be given the post of the Presiding Member and they did not budge.
The meeting had to be adjourned indefinitely.
