District Assembly increases revenue mobilisation

Twifo Praso (C/R), April 24, GNA – The Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira District Assembly collected a total of GH¢ 75,383.15 in revenue for the first quarter of 2008 as against GH¢ 22,097.97 the same period last year. Mr. Samuel Agyeibie Kessie the DCE, who disclosed this on Wednesday at an assembly meeting said the assembly projected GH¢ 204,000 for the year and with this achievement, he was optimistic that the assembly will achieve its target. He therefore appealed to assembly members to play their respective roles to supplement the efforts of the assembly’s revenue section to realize their goals.

Expenditure for the same period, he said stood at GH¢ 72,188.77 as against GH¢ 20,502.82 for last year. Mr. Agyeibie-Kessie said the assembly has put a lot of strategies in place to achieve this year’s revenue target. He entreated the assembly members to work diligently and assiduously to enhance the socio-economic development of the district. On education, Mr. Agyeibie-Kessie disclosed that government has approved the construction of emergency basic school projects at Twifo Nyenase Catholic primary schools. He therefore, appealed to the assembly members to take the fullest advantage of the capitation grant and ensure that every child goes to school.

The DCE advised chiefs and people of the district to conduct their electioneering campaigns and political activities with care and respect to ensure peaceful elections in December 2008. Mr. Emmanuel Agyeman, the Presiding member of assembly later presented a mobile phones donated by Mr. Abraham Odoom, Deputy Minister of Health to each of the 57 assembly members. He, on behalf of the House expressed gratitude to Mr. Odoom for his gesture.
