District Assembly embarks on tax education exercise

Suhum (E/R), Sept. 5, GNA- The Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District Assembly has embarked on tax education exercise as part of its programme to sensitise the people to appreciate the need to honour their tax obligations.

The exercise is also to inform the people about the Assembly’s new data for taxable areas.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Michael Kofi Mensah, announced this at a meeting with market women and “commission collectors” at Amanase, near Suhum on Thursday.

He said payment of taxes should be the collective responsibility of every citizen, adding that even though some people are poor, it did not mean they should not pay tax.

Mr Mensah said revenue from taxes is used to provide the same people with social amenities.

Mr William Kwaku Ampong, District Finance Officer, said after building the data, the Assembly has broadened the tax net and has also instituted internal control measures in collection of taxes. He advised the revenue collectors not to engage in open confrontation with defaulters but report them to the authorities for appropriate action.
