District Assembly donates boots to fire volunteers

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 7, GNA- Nkoranza District Assembly has presented 200 pieces of cutlasses and 100 pairs of Wellington boots, valued at about 12 million cedis, to fire volunteer squads in the district.

The items would enable them to carry out their activities effectively.

Mr. Ben Korsah, District Fire Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza on Thursday that the offer was a great relief to the volunteers who lacked the items.

He commended the District Chief Executive, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, for appreciating the efforts of the volunteers and arranging for the logistics.

The District Fire Officer said the items would be distributed among identified active volunteers in 13 zones of the district. Mr. Korsah called on the volunteers to work very hard to help combat bushfires in the area.

He urged Assembly Members, Unit Committees and Traditional rulers to support the volunteers in their communities.

The MP for Nkoranza, Mr. Hayford Francis Amoako, also donated 40 pieces of cutlasses worth two million cedis to the volunteers. Meanwhile, military and fire service personnel are in the area to check the activities of the people to forestall bushfires.
