District assemblies urged to involve civic groups in tax collection.

Kadjebi, Feb 1, GNA – A non-governmental organisation has appealed to district assemblies to involve civic groups and local trade associations in tax collection.

Mr Emmanuel Ntumi, Director of the Golden Gleam Foundation, a local NGO based in Hohoe, made the appeal at a meeting of NGOs in governance at Kadjebi in the Volta Region.

The groups included associations of queen mothers, youth groups, food vendors and market women.

He said collaboration with these groups would ingrain in their minds that development was a joint business for which all income earners needed to contribute. Ms Philomina Modey, Programme Officer for Gender and Education of Golden Gleam Foundation, said the umbrella association could serve as a pressure group and a resource base for the assemblies in planning and executing development projects. 31 Jan 07
