District Assemblies advised to invest in tourism

Takoradi, Aug. 12, GNA – Mr Jacob Oti-Awere, Western Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourist Board, on Wednesday urged the District Assemblies to invest in tourism to enable them to mobilise more revenue for development in their various areas.

He said the Hohoe, Ejisu-Juaben and Kwabere districts among others were benefiting from a venture.

Mr Oti-Awere who was speaking at an investment forum as part of activities marking the first Ever-Western Regional Homecoming Summit in Takoradi, said: ” District assemblies could invest in tourism by providing basic infrastructure at tourism sites to attract tourists”. Mr Oti-Awere said the people of Nzulezo and Wassa Domama were able to develop their tourism potentials and urged other communities to invest in the sector.

He said the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City in collaboration with traditional rulers in the Region, had identified sites for development into tourist attractions.

Mr Oti-Awere said efforts were also being made to preserve castles and forts in the Region to enhance tourism.

Dr Seth N. Buatsi, a Senior Lecturer at the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon, appealed to the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC) to assist in exploiting the Region’s natural resources to the benefit of the people.

He called on district assemblies to formulate good policies to attract investors to the Region and urged companies to access foreign capital by forming alliances with firms and cities abroad.
