Disregard for road signs cause of accidents.

Takoradi, May 22, GNA – Mr. Bismarck T. Boakye, Western and Central Regional Coordinator of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has attributed the recent upsurge in road accidents to over speeding, lack of regular vehicle maintenance and disregard for road signs. He noted that many drivers ignored traffic rules, which required them to drive within a certain speed limit.

Mr. Boakye briefing the media on the recent road accidents in the country said the NRSC would soon meet to draw its five-year plan of action and decide on the future of the 207 Benz buses for commercial purposes.

He said with the r ecent accidents involving 207 Benz buses there was the need to re-assess their use to reduce accidents.

Mr. Boakye stated that the role of the NRSC would become more evident when District and Community Road Safety Committees (D/CRSC) had been formed and said that the Commission would soon arrest and prosecute those who flouted Road Traffic Regulations.

He stressed the need for all road users including pedestrians to stick to their part and penalties for flouting it.
