Disqualified NPP aspirants will have 48 hrs to appeal

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has disclosed that in a case where the Vetting Committee of the party disqualifies any of the seven aspirants, 48 hours will be given for appeals to be made to that decision.

The appeal, he added, will be made in writing to his office.

Speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Tuesday, July 8 on the special vetting to prune the number of flagbearer aspirants down to five, Mr Agyepong noted that the Committee will be expected to present its report by the end of July after which a date and venue for the party’s delegates’ conference will be announced.

“[The Vetting Committee] is constitutionally mandate to vet these aspirants [and] the Committee has to satisfy itself,” he said.

Seven members of the party filed nominations to contest the leadership race on a tentative date of December 6.

Former contestants Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten are the front runners.

The other five who filed nominations by Monday, July 7 are Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Francis Addai Nimoh, Joe Ghartey and Kofi Osei Ameyaw.

The General Secretary stated that if an appeal is filed in a case of disqualification, the final decision on that will rest in the bosom of the National Executive.
